Sunlighten sauna review

The short version: Sunlighten sells four lines. mPulse is its programmable near, mid and far infrared system with red light and an in-cabin tablet. Amplify pairs far infrared with full-spectrum heaters and is the only line with a published maximum temperature — 170 °F, with no floor heater. Signature is far infrared only. Solo is a lie-down dome and pad. Every model has a published spec sheet giving exterior and interior dimensions, heater counts, wattage, amperage, dedicated circuit and NEMA plug. The EMF claim is backed by a named laboratory report, which is rare here — though only five of the thirteen models were in it.

The lineup, as the spec sheets give it

The pattern to notice: Sunlighten moves to 240 V at three people, where Clearlight keeps a 3-person cabin on 120 V. That buys more heater wattage into the same footprint — an mPulse Conquer puts 3,600 W into a 64.8-inch interior — and it costs you an electrician. The spec sheets also ask for clearance: four inches at the sides and six above on mPulse, four and twelve on Amplify, and they tell you to measure doorways, because the panels ship as mattress-sized boxes of 130 pounds or more. The EMF report, which is the reason this brand is worth reading

Sunlighten publishes a report from Vitatech Electromagnetics (document VTE-3200): tested on 5 November 2020 by an engineer named in the report at Sunlighten's Lenexa, Kansas warehouse, using a NARDA EHP-50f for electric field and a Bartington Mag-03 fluxgate for magnetic field, finalized in January 2021 and approved by a named engineering manager. It states plainly that the recorded values are emissions absorbed by the torso of an occupant sitting in the sauna, not readings taken against a single heating element — which is the distinction most brands blur.

Two honest caveats. Only five of the thirteen models were tested — Aspire, Discover, Empower, Amplify III and IV and Signature I, II and III were not — while the marketing line covers the whole line. And Signature IV at 0.86 mG is close to the 1 mG figure the brand quotes as its ceiling. None of that makes the report less valuable; it makes it a real document with real limits, which is more than most of this category offers. Heat, and where the lines differ

Amplify is the only line with a published maximum: engineered to reach 170 °F, with a footnote that Amplify models do not have a floor heater. mPulse and Signature publish no maximum temperature at all on their spec sheets or collection pages, which is a gap on a product whose entire proposition is heat. If the number matters to you, Amplify is the line that commits to one. Warranty and returns

• Residential: 7 years on cabinetry and heaters, 3 years on controls, 1 year on glass doors and audio. Commercial drops to 5 / 1 / 1.
• Not transferable — the warranty ends if ownership changes.
• Void if the sauna is altered, misused, exposed to water, infested, or not plugged directly into the required dedicated outlet, and saunas must sit at least five feet from any water source.
• Returns: 30 days from delivery, unopened packaging only. An opened sauna cannot be returned or exchanged.
• Fees on an accepted return: a 3 percent administrative fee, a $499 restocking fee per Amplify, mPulse or Signature sauna, return shipping, and storage fees if it has to be re-routed.
• Custom orders cannot be returned, exchanged or canceled, and a minimum of $1,000 is withheld from any approved refund on them.

An unopened-box return policy on a product that ships in three mattress-sized cartons is, in practice, not a trial. Know that going in, and compare it with the 100-day trial at SaunaSpace or the 30-day-with-restocking policies elsewhere.

Delivery and assembly

Sunlighten asks for 12 to 15 business days from ship date to reach your area, delivers on a pallet with the carrier making every effort to get it to the garage, and expects you to assemble it with at least two people. There is no assembly service on the shipping page. Practically, that means measuring the route into the room before ordering and having help booked for the day it lands.

Who this is for

Sunlighten suits a buyer who wants the specification sheet and the test report in hand before spending five figures, and who is comfortable with a seven-year warranty rather than a lifetime one. It is a poor fit if you want to try a sauna and send it back, or if you want the cheapest route to infrared heat — the Amazon cabins below cost a fraction and publish less, which is the trade in one sentence.
