The best cold plunges for a home gym
A home gym is a good place for a plunge and a hard one: humid, often on a suspended floor, and full of equipment that does not like water. Where the tub sits matters as much as which tub it is.

Training and plunging in the same room is convenient: finish a session, get in, done. But a gym brings its own problems for a plunge — rubber floors that hide what is underneath, steel that rusts in humid air, and equipment sharing the circuits a chiller wants to itself. This page picks plunges with those problems in mind.

Five checks before the tub
- 1The floor. Water weighs about 8.3 lb per gallon, so a 100-gallon plunge holds roughly 830 lb of water before the tub or you. On a slab that is rarely a problem; on a suspended floor or upstairs, ask a structural engineer. Rubber gym flooring protects the surface; it does not change what the floor can carry.
- 2Drainage. You will change the water every few weeks. A side drain and a hose to a floor drain or a door beat bailing — the Pod Company tub here includes both.
- 3The circuit. Chillers want their own circuit — the integrated plunges we have read specify a dedicated 15 A circuit, often with GFCI protection. A treadmill on the same circuit is how a breaker trips mid-session.
- 4Air around the chiller. Chillers shed heat into the room. Sun Home asks for 36 inches of airflow around its portable setup, with the chiller 40 inches from the tub or any wall; Plunge asks for 4 inches at one side of its All-In. In a small gym, that heat and the fan noise become part of the room.
- 5Humidity. An open plunge adds moisture to a room full of steel. A lid is the cheapest fix — check that the tub you choose includes one — and a dehumidifier the next.
Noise, if you train and plunge in the same room
None of the Amazon kits here publishes a noise figure any more. For comparison, Sun Home publishes 55–60 dB for its Horizontal portable plunge and likens it to a window air conditioner. If your gym is also where you watch TV or take calls, ask any seller for the number before you buy.
Weight, empty and full
| Plunge | Empty | Water, as published | Water weight, approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| AURGOD oval cedar | 400 lb | 600 L (about 158 gal) | About 1,310 lb |
| Duthss all-in-one | Not in our record | 400 L (about 106 gal) | About 880 lb |
| BEYOND MARINA slanted | Not published | 155 gal | About 1,290 lb |
| Ice Barrel 300 | Not in our record | 77 gal | About 640 lb |
| Fox Plunge kit | Not published | 87 gal | Not published |
| Pod Company standard | 7 lb | 84 gal | About 700 lb |
Water weight at about 8.3 lb per gallon, from NIST's density of water, rounded. Add the tub and the person. Nobody fills a tub to the brim, so the real figure is usually lower — but plan on the published capacity.
How we picked
- 1A footprint that suits a gym — compact, or a long tub with a published size.
- 2Drainage and a lid, or a clear way to add them.
- 3A stated circuit, voltage or chiller spec, for the plunges that cool themselves.
- 4Published capacity, so the floor question can be answered.
- 5A live buy box when we checked, on 2026-09-11.

Ice Barrel
$1,149.99 · 10% off
#ad Price as of Sep 27, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.
Rigid rather than inflatable, and insulated rather than bare — the two properties that decide whether ice lasts an afternoon or a morning.
| Volume | 77 gallons |
|---|---|
| Construction | Rigid, fully insulated |
| Orientation | Upright, seated |
| Chiller compatible | Yes |
| Footprint | Barrel — the smallest floor area here |
| Wall thickness | Not published |
| Availability when checked | Buy box live and in stock, re-checked 2026-09-10 |
What works
- Insulation holds temperature between sessions, cutting ice use and chiller runtime
- Rigid walls need no re-inflating and no babysitting
- The smallest floor footprint of any tub on this list
What doesn't
- Upright seating only — no lying down, no leg extension
- 77 gallons is not much water above the shoulders for a tall person
- Rigid means bulky to store and impossible to move alone
Skip it ifyou are over about 6'2". An upright barrel puts tall shoulders above the waterline and there is no adjusting for it.

Where premium sits
Sun Home's integrated Cold Plunge Pro is built for exactly this kind of room: 150 gallons, a standard NEMA 5-15 plug on a dedicated 15 A GFCI circuit, ozone and UV, and a published footprint of 78.7 by 33.5 inches at 400 lb empty. Sun Home asks for 12 inches of airflow at the sides and 36 at the front. See the Cold Plunge Pro review and Sun Home vs Plunge.
Where a plunge should not go
Not beside electrical equipment or under a power strip; not on a suspended floor without advice; not anywhere you cannot run a hose to drain it; and not somewhere so cold in winter that the chiller stops — Sun Home's portable chiller, for one, needs air above 40 °F. A garage gym has its own list, which our garage sauna guide covers.
