The best corner saunas

A corner sauna is a cabin with its door on an angled face, built to back into two walls rather than one. It fits the spare corner of a basement, bedroom or home gym that nothing else would use. The catch is geometry: for the same outside dimensions, a five-sided cabin has less usable space inside than a rectangle, and the benches follow the angle.

What a corner actually saves

Less than it seems, and more than nothing. The two-to-three-person corner cabins here are about 47 inches square from the outside. What changes is the door: it faces into the room on the diagonal, so the cabin needs no clear wall in front of it. It uses the two walls you already have, and leaves the rest of the room alone.

Measure the corner, not just the floor

• Ceiling height. The corner cabins here stand 74.8 to 78.5 inches tall, and manufacturers commonly specify clearance around and above a cabin — Sun Home, for example, asks for 4 inches at the sides and 12 above its indoor cabins. A basement corner under a duct or beam is often the lowest spot in the room.
• Both walls. Baseboards, a radiator, a window or a door swing on either wall can stop a cabin sitting square. The corner has to be clear along both faces for the full depth.
• The outlet. The plug has to reach a suitable receptacle without an extension cord. In a corner, that often means a new outlet — see the circuit section below.
• Your height. The SalusHEAT publishes a user range of 4.9 to 6.2 feet. Where a seller states who fits, believe it; where they do not, compare your seated height with the interior height before ordering.

The circuit decides more than the corner does

Every infrared cabin here draws between 1,600 W and 2,300 W. The KUNSANA and the OUTEXER state 120 V, and the OUTEXER states outright that it needs a 20 A circuit. At that draw a cabin should be the only thing on its circuit — a shared bedroom circuit with a lamp and a phone charger on it is not the place for it. The SalusHEAT publishes its 1,600 W but not its circuit, so ask. The ZONEMEL and the HKXSC need 220–240 V, which means an electrician before anything else. Where premium sits

Sun Home does not make a corner cabin, but its one-person Solstice solves the same problem another way. Sun Home publishes it at 37.8 inches wide and 39.8 inches deep — narrower than any corner cabin here — on a dedicated 20 A circuit with a NEMA 5-20 outlet, and publishes EMF measured at stated distances. It is a folding tent with carbon panels and a chair — a portable sauna rather than a cabin — and at about 63 inches tall you sit rather than stand.
