The best low-EMF infrared saunas
Every infrared cabin claims low EMF. A few publish a number. Almost none say how far from the heater it was measured — and that distance changes the number several times over.
"Low EMF" is the most common claim in infrared saunas and one of the least checkable. It refers to the magnetic field produced by the heating elements, measured in milligauss (mG). The trouble is that a magnetic field falls off quickly with distance, so a figure means nothing unless you know where it was measured.
This page ranks cabins on what they disclose rather than on the lowest number, because an undistanced number cannot honestly be ranked against another. Our cross-brand comparison table collects every figure we have found; this page is the buying version of it.

Why the distance changes everything
One brand publishes its figures properly, and it makes the point better than any argument. Sun Home Saunas publishes independent testing by Vitatech Electromagnetics — RMS magnetic field, measured with a fluxgate magnetometer, heating element under load — at three distances:

Sun Home's brand-level results for its heating technology, read on 2026-09-11. The same heaters read up to several times higher at 1 foot than at 3 feet. So a listing that says "≤0.8 mG" without a distance could be measuring at 3 feet — where much of the market would read low — or genuinely very close. There is no way to tell.
That is why we treat a figure plus a distance plus a method as the standard, a figure alone as a partial disclosure, and the word "low" on its own as marketing. We cover the concept fully in what low EMF actually means.

Sellers' own figures, read on 2026-09-11. None of these Amazon listings states a measurement distance or method. They rank above cabins that publish no figure at all — which is most of the market — and below a disclosure like the one above.
What the exposure guidelines say
It is worth keeping the numbers in proportion. International exposure guidelines from ICNIRP, referenced by the World Health Organization's EMF program, set reference levels far above anything a domestic sauna heater is claimed to produce. The low-EMF marketing contest is largely a contest to be lowest, not a contest to be within limits. If low EMF matters to you, buy on disclosure — it is the only way to know what you are comparing.

- 1A published numeric figure. The minimum for a place on this page. "Low EMF" alone does not qualify.
- 2An average as well as a maximum, where offered — more informative than a single ceiling.
- 3A narrower range over a wide one. "1.4–2.6 mG" says more than "0–5 mG".

- At what distance from the heater was the figure measured? The single most important question.
- With what instrument, and with the heater on? A reading with the heater off is meaningless.
- Is the figure for this model, or for the brand's heaters in general?
- Is there a test report you can read?

The one we would skip
The two-person cabin publishing 0–5 mG — if a low figure is the reason you are buying.
It is a genuinely good cabin in solid red cedar, with heaters reaching calves and feet that most cabins leave cold, and it earns its place for that. But a 0 to 5 mG range, with no distance, is the least informative figure on this page: its top end is higher than several others, and its bottom end is not a measurement anyone can check. Buy it for the cedar and the heat layout, not for the number.
