Electric or wood

Electric heaters are controllable and instant, and need 240 V. Wood stoves need no electricity at all, take about 45 minutes, and produce a heat many enthusiasts prefer.

The decision usually turns on the electrical run rather than on preference: a trenched 240 V circuit to the back of a garden regularly costs as much as the sauna. The two specs that separate wood stoves

Steel grade. 304 stainless is the correct grade for a wet, hot, outdoor environment. A stove that names it is telling you it will still be sound in a decade; one that says "stainless steel" without a grade is telling you less.

Stone capacity in pounds. Thermal mass determines how the heat behaves after the fire dies down and how well the stove takes a water throw. A stove publishing 55 lb of stone capacity is giving you something to reason with. Note that stones are usually not included at that weight, and 55 lb of them is a real additional cost.

Stones are a consumable

Sauna stones crack and crumble with thermal cycling. Degraded stones restrict airflow through the heater, which makes the elements run hotter and shortens the heater's life — so this is a heater-longevity issue rather than a cosmetic one.
