The best outdoor sauna covers
Some makers insist on one. Sunlighten will not honor its warranty on a sauna placed outdoors without a cover, and Sun Home ships a cover with every Luminar. Fit is the whole game, so measure first.
A cover keeps rain, snow and sun off a wooden cabin between sessions. For some saunas it is optional; for some it is a warranty condition. And it only works if it fits: the fitted covers here are each made to one set of dimensions, and one seller will not take a cover back if you ordered the wrong size.

When a cover is required
- Sunlighten. Its warranty terms say its saunas are not designed to be placed outdoors, and that one placed outside, with or without a roof, must have a sauna cover for the warranty to be honored. The cover's plastic sheet must be used for extra water protection, and the cover must stay on the sauna, including when it is in use.
- Sun Home Luminar. Sun Home includes a protective cover with every Luminar 2 and Luminar 5. It says using it is optional and that not using it does not, by itself, void the warranty — and that the cover helps protect the exterior and retain heat in cold weather.
- Everyone else. Read your own terms. Normal weathering is excluded from most of the sauna warranties we have read, which is an argument for a cover even where it is not required.

Fit comes first
Two of the fitted covers are sized for one- to two-person cabins, at about 40 × 38 × 73 in. The ZWBSHG is sized for 81.1 × 60.6 × 83.55 in — essentially the outside dimensions LTCCDSS publishes for its five-person outdoor cabin. KAIROSSENT says your sauna should be equal to or slightly smaller than the cover. Measure length, depth and height, including any roof overhang, before you order.
Barrels are different
Fitted covers are cabin-shaped, and a barrel's curve does not suit them. That is why the fourth pick is a flat tarp: ZONEMEL sells a 78.74 × 118.11 in sheet with a double-sided waterproof coating and heat-sealed edges, and lists it for barrel saunas. You tie it down yourself. Check the length and curve of your barrel against the sheet before you buy, and see barrel sauna upgrades for the other additions barrels benefit from.
What to look for
- Heavier fabric — 600D against 420D — if the cover stays on through winter.
- Door access without removing the cover: a roll-up panel or zippers.
- Vents. A sealed cover over a damp cabin can trap condensation; KAIROSSENT is the one pick that describes vents for it.
- Fastening that holds in wind: a drawstring, buckles, or both.
Follow your sauna maker on whether a cover can stay on while the sauna runs: Sunlighten's terms require it for an outdoor Sunlighten, and the KAIROSSENT's roll-up front is built so you can reach the door with the cover on. A quilted bath-barrel lid that came up in our sauna-cover search. At about 30 inches square, it is an ice-bath or soaking-tub cover, not a sauna cover. It may suit a plunge — our cold plunge covers page has better options for that.
