Red light panel vs red light wrap
A panel covers more of you from a distance. A wrap covers less of you from zero distance. Which delivers more depends on the one variable most buyers never think about.

The short version: buy a panel for general, larger-area use if you will stand or sit in front of it; buy a wrap for one specific area, or if you know you will not stand still for a session. The deciding factor is distance: a wrap sits on the skin, so its distance is always zero, while a panel's output at your skin depends on how far away you are.
The two side by side
| Panel | Wrap or belt | |
|---|---|---|
| Area covered | A back, a torso, or a whole body on large boards | A joint, a torso, a section of back |
| Distance to skin | Whatever you choose — and it varies | Zero, and constant |
| Can you do something else? | No — you stand or sit in front of it | Yes — it straps on |
| Repeatability | Depends on marking your position | High — it goes on the same way each time |
| Space | Wall, door or stand | None |
| Published irradiance | Rare on full-size panels | Rare on wraps |
Why distance decides it
Dose is irradiance multiplied by time, and irradiance falls quickly with distance from the source. Where manufacturers publish irradiance at more than one distance, the figure can roughly halve over a few inches. So a panel used at arm's length may deliver far less to your skin than its size suggests, while a much smaller wrap in contact delivers its full output to the area it covers. We explain the physics in irradiance explained.
That does not make wraps better. It makes the comparison depend on use: a panel wins on area, a wrap wins on consistency at one site. If you want to treat a back or a large area, a panel at a consistent, close distance is the tool. If you want to treat one knee every day while doing something else, a wrap is.
The honest question: will you stand still?
Research protocols typically repeat sessions over weeks, so the device you use most days beats the better device you use occasionally. A panel asks for ten to twenty minutes standing or sitting in front of it; a wrap asks you to strap it on. If you know your mornings, that answer may matter more than any specification. What the research does and does not show is set out on the red light therapy evidence page — the short version is that the evidence is real, narrower than the marketing, and built on consistent, repeated use.
Which to choose
- A full-body panel, if you want broad coverage and will keep to a marked distance.
- A tall, narrow panel, if you want a back or a leg covered without a full-body board's size.
- A torso wrap, if you want larger-area contact and to move during a session.
- A joint wrap, if you have one specific area and want the emitters on it every time.
Two panels, two wraps
Full-Body Red Light Therapy Panel, 5 Wavelengths, 120 Dual-Chip LEDs
Generic Amazon listing
#ad Price as of Sep 27, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.
Five wavelengths across 120 dual-chip diodes, with a published wattage. Dual chip means every LED emits more than one wavelength, so coverage is even rather than striped.
| LEDs | 120, dual chip |
|---|---|
| Wavelengths | 5, per the listing |
| Power | 200 W |
| Board size | Not published in the listing |
| Stand | Not published in the listing |
| Irradiance | Not published at a stated distance |
What works
- A published wattage and LED count
- Dual-chip diodes, so both main wavelengths come from every LED
- More wavelengths than the two-wavelength boards at this size
What doesn't
- No published board dimensions
- No irradiance figure at any distance
- Extra wavelengths have a thinner research base than 660 and 850 nm
Skip it ifyou want the largest treated area per dollar. Wavelength count is not coverage.
Supersred Red Light Therapy Panel, 1,500 W Dual-Chip Board
Supersred
#ad Price as of Sep 27, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.
Dual-chip diodes, so both wavelengths come from every LED rather than alternating across the board. The listing publishes a wattage and the wavelengths and nothing else — no board size, no irradiance.
| Power, per the listing | 1,500 W lamp board |
|---|---|
| Wavelengths | 660 nm and 850 nm, dual chip |
| Board size | Not published in the listing |
| LED count | Not published in the listing |
| EMF | Not published |
| Irradiance | Not published at a stated distance |
What works
- Dual-chip LEDs, so coverage is even rather than striped
- A stated wattage, which most panels at this price omit
- Both research-backed wavelengths in one board
What doesn't
- No published board dimensions, so coverage cannot be checked before it arrives
- No irradiance figure at any distance
- A lamp wattage is not the same as delivered output
Skip it ifyou need to know the treated area before buying. This listing will not tell you how big the board is.
BraveCity Red Light Therapy Belt, 230 LEDs
BraveCity
#ad Price as of Sep 27, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.
The highest LED count of any wrap here, and a listing that now publishes almost nothing else — no belt dimensions, no wavelengths, no irradiance. A wrap's advantage is zero distance, which no panel can match.
| LEDs | 230, per the listing |
|---|---|
| Belt size | Not published in the current listing |
| Wavelengths | Not published in the current listing |
| Intensity levels | Not published in the current listing |
| Pulse modes | Not published in the current listing |
| Irradiance | Not published at a stated distance |
What works
- 230 LEDs is the largest count among the wraps here
- Contact use means distance is always zero
- Wraps treat a joint or the lower back without a stand
What doesn't
- The current listing publishes no wavelengths or dimensions
- No irradiance figure at any distance
- Coverage is a band, not a body
Skip it ifyou want published wavelengths before you buy. Ask the seller, or take a panel that states them.
Kineon Move+ Red Light Therapy Wrap
Kineon
#ad Price as of Sep 27, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.
Uses 808 nm rather than the usual 850 nm, and concentrates output into modules aimed at one joint instead of spreading it over a belt. That is a genuinely different design, not a cheaper one.
| Wavelengths | 660 nm red, 808 nm infrared |
|---|---|
| Form | Modular wrap with an adjustable strap |
| Placement | Modules sit directly on the skin |
| Targets | Knees, joints, localized muscle groups |
| Power source | Portable, hands free |
| Irradiance | Not published at a stated distance |
What works
- Built for one joint rather than compromising across a whole torso
- Modules contact skin directly, which removes the distance variable entirely
- Adjustable strap means it stays put during movement
What doesn't
- 808 nm is less studied than 850 nm, though both sit in the near-infrared band
- Small treatment area — this is not a full-body device and does not pretend to be
- No irradiance figure, and no LED count published
Skip it ifyou want general full-body recovery. This is a targeted instrument; a belt or a panel covers far more area per session.
