How this site makes money, what that does and does not buy, and where the boundaries are — in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.

The Amazon Associates statement

Stove & Snow is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

What an affiliate link is

When you click a buy button here, you go through a redirect on our own domain — a URL beginning `/go/` — which adds our tracking tag and forwards you to the retailer. If you then buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket.

Every earning link on this site carries `rel="sponsored nofollow"`, opens in a new tab, and sits under a visible `#ad` marker with a link back to this page. Every commercial page also carries a disclosure notice above its first affiliate link.

What commission does not buy

  1. 1It does not buy a ranking. Picks are ordered by the criteria set out in our methodology, and commission rate is not one of them.
  2. 2It does not buy a verdict. Every product card on this site names who should not buy that product, including our top picks.
  3. 3It does not buy inclusion. No manufacturer has paid to appear here, and none has been asked to.
  4. 4It does not buy silence. Where a listing publishes nothing, or reads as unavailable, or makes an unverifiable claim, we say so — including on products we link.

Where we earn nothing

This is worth stating specifically because it is unusual. A significant number of pages on this site carry no buy links at all, and each of them says why on the page:

  • Every health-evidence page. Sauna benefits, cold plunge benefits and red light evidence earn nothing. A page assessing whether something works should not be selling it.
  • Every protocol and safety page. Cold plunge protocol, temperature guides.
  • Cost and sizing pages. Running costs, chiller sizing — a calculation should not be biased by a product attached to it.
  • Pages about brands we are not affiliated with. Our Sun Home, Dundalk and Redwood Outdoors pages earn nothing from those brands, and the alternatives we link are clearly labeled as alternatives rather than as those products.
  • Reference tables like the low-EMF comparison, where a buy button would create the exact incentive that makes EMF claims untrustworthy.

Which programs we are in

Amazon Associates only, at present. We are not currently in any CJ or Awin program, and we do not build tracking links for programs we have not joined — not for Sun Home, not for Harvia, not for HUUM, not for anyone. Where this site links a manufacturer directly, it is an unmonetized reference link so you can reach the source specification, and it earns us nothing.

If that changes we will update this page and date the change. What will not change is the rule: a link is either an earning link marked as one, or a plain reference link that earns nothing.

Prices

We do not print prices anywhere on this site, because we do not run a live price feed and a stale number presented as current would be worse than no number. Every buy button goes to the live listing, where the price is the retailer's and it is right at the moment you look at it.

Free products

We accept none. Not review samples, not loans, not long-term test units. That is partly a trust position and partly a practical consequence of not testing hardware — there would be nothing to do with them.

If that ever changes, it will be disclosed prominently on every affected page and this policy will be rewritten and dated rather than quietly amended.

Why we are telling you this at length

Because the alternative is common in this category and we think it is corrosive. In our survey of publishers ranking for these terms, four of ten were companies selling the products they ranked, and none disclosed it prominently. One guide was written by the founder and CEO of the brand it placed first.

We would rather over-explain our funding than have you discover it. If anything on this page is unclear, or you think a page is not disclosing properly, tell us.

Questions people actually ask

Does it cost me more to buy through your links?
No. You pay exactly the same price. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin rather than being added to yours.
Do you get paid more for recommending certain products?
Commission rates vary by product category, and that variation plays no part in how we rank anything — the criteria are set out in our methodology. A number of our pages carry no buy links at all, and several link to manufacturers we earn nothing from.
Are you in the Sun Home or Harvia affiliate programs?
No. We are in Amazon Associates only. Where we link a manufacturer directly it is an unmonetized reference link so you can reach their published specifications, and it earns us nothing. We do not build tracking links for programs we have not joined.
How do I know which links are affiliate links?
Every earning link is a buy button carrying a visible #ad marker with a link back to this page, and it opens in a new tab with rel="sponsored nofollow". Every commercial page also carries a disclosure notice above its first affiliate link. Plain text links inside articles are internal navigation or citations and earn nothing.
