A sauna sand timer does one job: it tells you how long you have been in, without a screen in the hot room. The five below all mount on the wall and rotate to restart. Four run 15 minutes — a length two of the listings call the most popular for a session — and one runs 30, with 10- and 20-minute marks. Where a maker states its accuracy, we say so: within 60 seconds for one, ±10% for two, nothing for the rest.

Foxyoo is the only listing here that gives placement advice, and it applies to all of them: keep the timer away from the stove or heater, and mount it near the door or somewhere out of the steam, because moisture can clog the sand. YLTIMER describes the same problem — sand that slows in humidity — and says twisting or tapping the timer frees it, and that rotating it regularly in dry air keeps it flowing. HSE, HERMARM and Foxyoo mount with two screws, and HSE and HERMARM hide the mounting strip behind the timer.

15 minutes or 30

Fifteen minutes is the default, and it works as a reminder to check in with yourself rather than a target. The YLTIMER's 30-minute glass is marked at 10 and 20, so one timer covers shorter and longer rounds; the HSE and HERMARM mark 5 and 10 on a 15-minute glass. Accuracy, as stated

Sand timers are approximate. HSE says its 15-minute timer is accurate to within 60 seconds; HERMARM and Foxyoo both state ±10%, which on 15 minutes is a minute and a half either way. Northwood and YLTIMER give no figure. If you need exact timing, a digital timer outside the hot room, or the sauna's own controller, does that better; the sand timer's job is to be readable from the bench.
