Who I am
An enthusiast. Someone genuinely interested in home saunas and cold plunges, who reads the manuals, pulls the published specifications into tables and does the arithmetic that nobody else in this category seems willing to publish.
That is the whole description, and it is deliberately short. It is not modesty — it is accuracy, and accuracy about who is writing is the first thing a reader should be able to check.
What I do not do
- I do not test hardware. No bench, no lab, no owned units. Nothing on this site is a measurement I took.
- I hold no credentials. Not an engineer, not an electrician, not a clinician, not a certified anything. Nothing here is medical or electrical advice.
- I do not accept free products. No review samples, no loans, nothing.
- I do not claim tenure. No accumulated time in the category, no seniority, no long service. Those claims are unverifiable and I am not making them.
What I do instead
- 1Read the manuals and spec sheets. The manufacturer's own documentation, not the marketing page.
- 2Compile specs into comparable tables. Which is harder than it sounds, because half the figures in this category are not comparable — an EMF reading with no measurement distance, an irradiance figure that does not exist, an insulation claim with no R-value.
- 3Do the arithmetic. Running costs from kilowatt ratings. Chiller sizing from heat loads. Ice quantities from the latent heat of fusion. Always with the working shown, so you can substitute your own numbers and check me.
- 4Cite real sources. Every physiological claim links to a named, linked paper. Where the evidence is observational rather than causal, I say so in the sentence.
- 5Say when something is not published. "Not published" is a complete answer and a more useful one than a guess.
The kind of original work this is
I do not have first-hand experience of these products, and I am not going to manufacture any. What I do have is reproducible first-hand analysis, which is a real form of original work: a cross-brand EMF table that did not exist before, running-cost arithmetic that no competitor publishes, and chiller sizing derived from physics because no manufacturer publishes a volume rating.
Anyone can check that work. That is the point of showing it.
Where I am wrong
Spec-led analysis has real limits and I have written them out in full on the methodology page — published specs are marketing documents, figures are frequently not comparable, and I cannot assess build quality or how anything feels. Those are genuine weaknesses in what I do, not caveats bolted on for form.
If I have got something wrong, tell me. Corrections get read first, and they get fixed, dated and described rather than quietly amended.
