VITAL+ cold plunge review

The short version: VITAL+ pairs insulated tubs — a lie-back Cold Plunge Pro, an upright Barrel, a Pod and a two-person Duo Cedar — with one of three chillers: the Ultra X2 to 37 °F, the one-horsepower Chiller Max from 34 to 112 °F, and the two-horsepower Ultra ICE from 32 to 113 °F with ice-making. Every model runs from a standard household outlet. Filtration is the brand's strong suit: ozone plus a 20-micron and a sediment filter, integrated in the chiller. The warranty is shown as a one-year badge, with a paid extension.

Cold: three chillers, three floors

The Ultra X2 that ships with the Pro, Barrel and Pod is rated as low as 37 °F, and VITAL+ says that figure depends on the ambient temperature. The Chiller Max adds heat — 34 to 112 °F — from a one-horsepower compressor, and the Ultra ICE, a two-horsepower unit sold with the Duo Cedar, is rated from 32 to 113 °F with ice-making; both are quoted as cooling or heating in under three hours. Size, and the fit contradiction

The capacities and dimensions are clear: 105 gallons in a 59 × 27.5 × 27.5-inch Pro — at about 8.3 lb per gallon, roughly 870 lb of water — 80 gallons in a 34-inch-diameter Pod, and a 35-inch-diameter Barrel. Height guidance is where the pages disagree with themselves. The Barrel page carries both "fit for people under 6 ft 5" and "fits user up to 6 ft 6"; the Pod page both "fit for people under 6 ft" and "fits 1 user up to 6 ft 5"; the Pro page simply says it fits users of all sizes. Filtration and upkeep

Every VITAL+ chiller combines ozone purification with a built-in 20-micron filter and a sediment filter, which the brand calls 3-way filtration and says keeps water clean for up to eight weeks — six on the Solo Cedar. That is the brand's claim rather than a tested figure, and what actually decides it is bathers, sunlight and how often the water turns over; our filtration guide covers that. The chillers are rated IPX4 for indoor or outdoor use, and the Pro page's chiller comparison lists 37 lb and 55 dB for the Ultra X2 against 85 lb and 70 dB for the Chiller Max — worth knowing if it will sit near a bedroom window.

The warranty

VITAL+ says all its products include a manufacturer's warranty with optional extensions, and its product pages show a one-year warranty badge alongside a paid "+1 Year Extended Warranty" that it describes as bringing the X2 chiller to two years in total. The pages we read did not set out what is covered, who pays for labor, or how a claim is handled — they link to full warranty details rather than stating them. Ask for the written terms before you buy, and compare them with the category in sauna and cold plunge warranties compared. Returns are 30 days, in resalable condition, and VITAL+ says it ships from Chino, California.

• Anyone who wants heat as well as cold, via the Chiller Max or Ultra ICE — within the 104 °F ceiling.

Alternatives you can buy today

VITAL+ does not sell through Amazon. Our honest position

VITAL+ publishes usable numbers for capacity, dimensions, insulation thickness and filtration, and its three-chiller ladder makes the range easy to read. What it does not put on the product pages is the warranty in writing — and for an appliance with a compressor, that is the document to read before you pay. The contradictory height figures are a smaller version of the same problem. We have not used one and earn nothing from the brand.
