Clearlight sauna review

The short version: Clearlight is made by Sauna Works and licenses the Jacuzzi brand for its saunas, a partnership announced in 2017. The line splits into Premier, far infrared only, and Sanctuary, which adds 500 W full-spectrum heaters on the front wall. Eleven residential models run from a 1-person Premier at 1,370 W on a standard outlet to a 5-person Sanctuary at 3,860 W on 240 V. The specification sheets are complete — interior size, bench size, exterior size, weight, wattage, amperage and NEMA plug on every model — and there is no price anywhere on the site. The warranty is a genuine limited lifetime on cabin, heaters, controls and audio, with seven years of labor. The EMF claim is not supported by any published test document.

The range, as Clearlight publishes it

Two things in that table are worth pausing on. First, the Premier 3 seats three on a 120 V circuit, which almost nobody else manages — the trade is 2,050 W spread over a 55-inch interior, where a 240 V cabin of the same size would carry more. Second, the amperages are close to their circuit limits: a Sanctuary 2 at 18.83 A on a 20 A circuit leaves very little headroom, and Clearlight's manual tells you to plug directly into a wall outlet rather than a strip or an extension cord. Sanctuary versus Premier: what the extra heaters do

Premier cabins are True Wave far infrared on the back wall, front wall, side walls, behind the calves and under the floor. Sanctuary cabins add True Wave full-spectrum heaters on the front wall — two 500 W units on the 1-, 2- and 3-person models, four on the Sanctuary 5 and Outdoor 5. That is the whole difference in kind. Full spectrum adds near and mid wavelengths, which is the part that feels like direct radiant heat on skin rather than ambient warmth; our full spectrum vs far infrared page covers what changes and what does not. Every model we read includes an under-floor heater, which is less common than you would think in this price bracket.

Temperature: 175 °F on the controller, 115 to 125 °F in the room

Clearlight's owner's manual says you can program a maximum of 175 °F, and its own FAQ says the cabins work at comfortable temperatures of 115 to 125 °F, warming for 10 to 15 minutes, with roughly 80 percent of the energy going into your body and 20 percent into the air. Those two numbers are not in conflict — one is a set point, the other is what an infrared cabin actually holds with a body in it — but they do explain why an infrared sauna feels nothing like a traditional room at 190 °F. The EMF claim, and what is missing behind it

Every Clearlight product page carries the same sentence: that using ultra-sensitive testing equipment, its proprietary heaters cancel out both EMF and ELF, making them the safest on the market. Its blog puts numbers to that — under 1 mG at the heater surface, near 0 mG at the bench, against competitor carbon heaters at 70 to 100 mG — and its FAQ repeats the under-1 mG figure. What we could not find anywhere on the site is a named testing laboratory, a report, a test standard or a date. The company invites customers to check with their own gaussmeters, which is a fair invitation and not a substitute for a published measurement.

That matters because a competitor in the same price bracket does publish one. Sunlighten's Vitatech report names the lab, the engineer, the instruments, the date and the per-model maximum readings. We are not saying Clearlight's heaters are worse; we are saying one brand's claim is checkable and the other's is not. The warranty, in its own words

Read the two conditions at the bottom of that table again, because they are the ones that catch people: the warranty is void on a cabin installed more than six months after it was delivered, and it does not transfer if you sell the house with the sauna in it. Indoor coverage extends to outdoor use only if you bought the specified water-resistant cover at the same time and keep it on. Buying, delivery and returns

Clearlight publishes no prices — the site is inquiry-based, which is the single biggest practical difference between shopping this brand and shopping Amazon. Liftgate service and delivery notification are standard, and someone over 18 has to sign. Assembly is quoted at one to three hours with two people and a screwdriver. Returns run 30 business days from receipt with a 25 percent restocking charge, return freight at your cost, and, on anything that shipped under a free or discounted shipping promotion, the original freight cost deducted from the refund. Custom orders are not refundable.

• Any EMF or ELF test report, lab name or standard behind the cancellation claim.
• A maximum temperature on the product pages — the 175 °F figure is in the owner's manual.
• Heater surface temperatures or per-heater wattages, beyond the 500 W full-spectrum units.
• Wood grade detail beyond Eco-Certified Mahogany or Basswood.

Who this is for

Clearlight suits a buyer who wants a cabin with a genuine lifetime parts warranty and seven years of labor, who is comfortable asking for a quote, and who values an under-floor heater and a complete specification sheet. It is a poor fit if you want to compare prices before you talk to anyone, if you need the EMF claim to be backed by a document you can read, or if you might move house and want the warranty to follow the sauna.
