The best infrared saunas under $1,500

The short version: under $1,500 you are buying a one-person cabin, on a standard household circuit, in the 900 to 1,300 watt range. What separates them is not heat — they all reach the same 140-odd degrees an infrared cabin runs at — but what the listing publishes: the interior dimensions you will actually sit in, an EMF figure with or without a measurement distance, and whether the panels are carbon, mica or ceramic. The ones worth buying publish all three.

What the budget decides

The criteria, in the order that matters

• Interior dimensions. The outside measurement includes the wall. The inside number decides whether your knees touch the door, and at this size they often do. Look for an interior width near 30 inches.
• Wattage against volume. Nine hundred watts in a one-person box is fine; the same 900 W in a listing claiming two people is not. Wattage per cubic foot is the check nobody publishes for you.
• Circuit, stated. These should all run on a normal outlet. Where a listing specifies a dedicated 20 A circuit, believe it — a cabin drawing 1,200 W continuously on a shared circuit will trip it.
• EMF with a distance. An EMF number without a measurement distance cannot be compared with another EMF number. One pick here publishes a range; most publish nothing. See what is low EMF.

What you give up under $1,500

Space, mostly. Every cabin here is a one-person box, and the second person the photography implies is not real. You also give up published testing — no brand at this price publishes a named laboratory EMF report the way Sunlighten does — and you give up warranty depth, since a marketplace brand's one year is not the same instrument as a manufacturer's seven. What you keep is the thing that matters most days: a room you can sit in, at home, on a plug, for the price of a blanket and a half.

Assembly and siting

These arrive flat-packed with pre-wired panels and clip or buckle together, usually in under an hour with two people. Leave clearance behind the cabin for the cable and for air, put it on a hard floor rather than deep carpet, and keep it out of a garage that drops below freezing in winter — cold starts are hard on electronics and the wood moves.
