Tylo sauna review

The short version: Tylo was founded in Sweden in 1949, is headquartered in Halmstad, and is now part of Sauna360 with Finnleo, Helo, Kastor and Amerec; its North American operation is in Cokato, Minnesota. The current catalog is four pre-built cabin collections — Reflection, Halmstad, Lulea outdoor and Kiruna hybrid — plus seven electric heaters. Cabins publish their footprint, wood, heater model, kW and circuit. The warranty is five years on core components with two years of in-field labor and three more of factory labor. There are no prices.

The cabins

The Kiruna Hybrid is the model that justifies reading this brand against the infrared cabins: a 6 kW stove and CarbonFlex infrared emitters in one room, so you can run it as a traditional sauna with steam or as a lower-temperature infrared session. The heaters

One contradiction to carry into a dealer conversation: Tylo's FAQ says traditional and hybrid models may require 220 V connections or 15 to 20 amp circuits, while the heater and cabin pages specify 25 to 34.6 amps. The specific pages are almost certainly right and the FAQ is loose, but a 20 A circuit will not run a Crown 8. Get the figure for your exact model in writing before an electrician quotes the work. Running cost, drains and clearances

• Operating cost: Tylo publishes about $0.60 an hour for a 6 kW heater, at unnamed electricity rates.
• No drain required — Tylo states that water from traditional sauna use evaporates during the session.
• Clearance: half an inch to an inch around the unit for airflow and wiring.
• Flooring: hard, level and non-porous; some models offer an optional built-in floor.
• Maintenance: towels on benches, damp-cloth wiping, paraffin oil and cleaner for the wood, and annual sealing on outdoor models.

Warranty

Five years on core components — heaters, infrared panels, wood cabinetry, speakers and more — with in-field labor covered for the first two years and factory labor for three years after that. The FAQ adds that the Bluetooth sound system is covered for one year. Coverage is described as residential; commercial terms and the full exclusion list are not published on the web pages, and claims go through the dealer you bought from. That labor split is better than most: two years of someone coming to you is worth more than a longer parts term with no labor at all.

Living with one

Tylo publishes more day-to-day detail than most: towels on the benches, a damp cloth for wiping down, paraffin oil and its own cleaner for the wood, and — the one people forget — annual sealing on outdoor models. The Lulea is a garden building as much as a sauna, and a steel roof does not save the cladding from weather. The hybrid question

The Kiruna Hybrid puts a 6 kW stove and CarbonFlex infrared emitters in the same 62-inch cabin, which sounds like the best of both and is really a scheduling convenience: you are still choosing, per session, between a hot stone room and a warm radiant one. What it buys is optionality for a household that disagrees about heat — one person at 190 °F with löyly, the other at 130 °F for longer. What it costs is complexity, two heating systems to maintain and a 25 A circuit either way.
