Sun Home Eclipse vs Pod

The short version: the Pod is a one-person far-infrared cabin with red light, on a dedicated 20 A circuit, in a footprint about 40 inches square. The Eclipse adds two or four full-spectrum heaters, a heated floor panel and a calf heater to the red light and far infrared, for two or four people — and needs a 30 A circuit. If it is only ever you, the Pod is the simpler buy. If you want full spectrum or a second seat, it is the Eclipse.

What the Eclipse adds

Sun Home describes the Eclipse as three walls of far-infrared panels, adjustable full-spectrum heaters behind the backrests, a heated floor panel and a dedicated calf heater, plus built-in red light therapy towers. It arrives crated — 700 to 1,100 lb depending on size — and its panels lock together without screws or power tools, though Sun Home suggests a second pair of hands. The two-person model is just over four feet wide and the four-person almost eight, and both share a 71.5-inch interior height.

What the Pod keeps simple

The Pod is ten far-infrared heaters, red light, chromotherapy, ambient lighting, Bluetooth audio and app control in a cabin Sun Home describes as roughly the floor space of an armchair: 40.1 inches square and 77.5 inches tall. It arrives flat-packed and assembles in place. There are no full-spectrum heaters, and there is only one seat — which, if you sauna alone, is not a compromise at all. The circuit is the practical difference

The Pod runs on its own dedicated 120 V, 20 A circuit with a NEMA 5-20 outlet — "one plug, one circuit", in Sun Home's words. The Eclipse two-person is also 120 V, but on a dedicated 30 A circuit with a NEMA L5-30 twist-lock outlet, and the four-person moves to 240 V on an L6-30. Those are less common receptacles than a 20 A outlet, and adding one is an electrician's job. Sun Home says to book the electrician before delivery day. Red light: what is and is not published

Both cabins include red light as standard. Neither product page publishes the wavelengths, LED count or irradiance of the built-in red light, which is the specification that would tell you what dose it delivers — the question our irradiance explained page is about. Sun Home does publish independent EMF testing of its heating technology at stated distances (0.6–4.0 mG at 1 foot, 0.4–1.8 mG at 2 feet, 0.3–0.9 mG at 3 feet), and describes both cabins as using its patented shielding, but that testing is for the brand's heaters rather than for either model specifically.

What the warranty covers

• "Limited lifetime" means up to seven years on cabinetry and heaters — Sun Home calls seven years the expected useful lifetime — and it applies to residential use only.
• Three years on controls, one year on LED lighting, glass doors and audio. The page does not say separately how the built-in red light is treated, so ask.
• Labor and shipping for 90 days. After that, Sun Home says the customer pays shipping and labor.
• Five feet from water. Sun Home's terms void the warranty if the sauna stands closer than five feet to a cold plunge, shower, bathtub or hot tub — worth knowing before you plan a contrast corner.
• Original purchaser only. Cover ends if the sauna changes hands.

Which to choose

• The Pod, if you sauna alone, your space is tight, and a 20 A circuit is easier to add than a 30 A twist-lock.
• The Eclipse, if you want full-spectrum heaters, a heated floor and calf heater, or room for two or four — and a 30 A circuit is feasible.

Neither sells through Amazon.
