Golden Designs sauna review

The short version: Golden Designs Inc. operates out of Ontario, California and sells through at least three brand labels — Dynamic for infrared cabins, GDI for its own line including traditional, barrel and hybrid rooms, and Maxxus. It says it has been trading since 2008 and holds 8,000 saunas in stock. The specifications it publishes are dimensional and thorough: exterior and interior sizes, wood, weight, box count, panel count. The specifications it does not publish are the ones that decide running cost and circuit headroom — there is no wattage on any product page we read.

Three brands, one company

The practical consequence is that the same hardware can reach you under two names. Costco's six-person Toledo hybrid carries model GDI-8360-01 — a Golden Designs part number the maker lists on its own site — while Costco shows the brand as Dynamic Saunas. Costco's Aveiro is sold as a Dynamic and carries an MX- Maxxus number. If you are comparing two listings and wondering whether they are the same cabin, compare the model numbers rather than the names.

The EMF tiers, and where they contradict each other

Golden Designs is unusual in publishing milligauss bands at all, and it publishes them with a measurement distance, which is more than most of this category manages. There are three tiers, and they do not agree across the site.

Two more things worth knowing before those numbers carry weight with you. No named laboratory, test report or standard is published anywhere we could find — the FAQ's verification claim is that the company tests at the highest levels, with no ETL file number or report attached. And a third set of thresholds appears in Amazon listing titles: "Under 8 MG" for Low EMF and "Under 3 MG" for Ultra Low, with one title reading "Ultra Low EMF (Under 8 MG)", which contradicts itself. The specification gap: wattage

Not one Golden Designs product page we read publishes a wattage. They publish voltage and amperage — 120 V / 15 A on the small cabins, 120 V / 20 A on mid-size, dual 20 A circuits on the six-person Monaco, 240 V / 40 A on the hybrid — which tells you what the electrician needs and not what the cabin costs to run. Costco, selling the same hardware, publishes the wattage: 1,700 W for the two-person San Marino Elite and Serena, 2,200 W for the three-person Lugano full spectrum, 5,700 W for the Toledo hybrid. What the cabins publish well

• Interior and exterior dimensions on every model, including how much the roof overhang adds — the detail that decides whether it fits an alcove.
• Panel counts and heater mix, including how many are far-infrared carbon and how many are near-infrared elements on full-spectrum models.
• Weight, assembled and shipping, and the number of boxes it arrives in — one box for a one-person cabin, six for a six-person traditional room.
• Wood, consistently Canadian hemlock across the infrared line, cedar on the traditional and some Costco variants.
• A stated temperature ceiling of 140 °F on the infrared cabins, with an ideal range given as 118–132 °F.

Warranty: read the outdoor one twice

• Indoor infrared: five years on heating elements and electronics, one year on the wood structure, one year for commercial use.
• Not transferable, to the original purchaser at the original installation site only.
• Indoor use only — putting an indoor cabin outdoors voids it outright.
• Outdoor and hybrid line: five years on wood structure, control panel and lights, with the heater excluded and covered by its own maker's warranty.
• The outdoor exclusion to read twice: damage caused by direct exposure to rain, snow, sun, wind or extreme temperatures is not covered, on a product sold for outdoor use.
• Coverage ends on owner transfer or relocation, and you prepay freight on warranty parts.

Buying, delivery and returns

Direct orders ship within two business days, arrive strapped to a pallet on a 53-foot semi, and are curbside only — the driver unloads to the end of your driveway and no further. Assembly is quoted at about an hour for two adults with a screwdriver and a ladder, using a clasp-together system. The return terms are the harshest part of the proposition: cancellation only within 24 hours of ordering, returns within 30 days, a 20 percent restocking fee, and shipping both ways at your cost. Recalls

We searched the CPSC recall database for "sauna", "Golden Designs" and "Dynamic Saunas" on 2026-09-27 and found no recall records and no safety notices for this brand. That is worth stating plainly, because a competitor in this category is currently under a recall — see our Radiant Health review.

Who this is for

Golden Designs suits a buyer who wants a large catalog, published dimensions they can plan around, and the option of buying the same cabin through Costco's return policy instead of the maker's. It is a poor fit if you want the wattage before you buy, if the EMF tier is the reason you are choosing it — the numbers conflict across the company's own pages — or if you might move house, because the warranty does not go with you.

The Dynamic Lugano is this maker's own cabin. The rest are not Golden Designs units and are not claimed as equivalents — they are Amazon cabins in the same sizes, each with its own published specifications.
