Sun Home Cold Plunge Vertical and Horizontal: what the documentation says

The Vertical and the Horizontal are the same system in two shapes: an inflatable tub — upright and seated, or long and reclining — with a standalone smart chiller that both cools and heats. They sit well below Sun Home's integrated Pro line and compete with the inflatable kits that fill Amazon, so the useful question is what Sun Home's version publishes that those do not.

What Sun Home publishes

The capacity number that disagrees with itself

Sun Home's Horizontal page gives 80–90 gallons (300–350 liters) in its specification list and in its setup guidance — "both hold roughly 80–90 gallons" — but 128 gallons in its Key Features block. The published interior, 69 by 19.5 by 23.5 inches, works out to about 137 gallons filled to the brim, so 128 could be a near-full figure and 80–90 a practical fill level. The page does not say which it means, so ask Sun Home before you plan a floor around it.

It matters for weight. Water is about 8.3 lb per gallon, so 90 gallons is roughly 750 lb and 128 gallons roughly 1,060 lb, before the chiller or you.

What the chiller asks of you

• Air above 40 °F. Sun Home says the chiller needs ambient temperatures above 40 °F to run, which rules out winter outdoors in much of the country.
• Clearance. 36 inches of airflow around the setup, the chiller's fan facing away, at least 40 inches from the tub or any wall, and 5 feet from other appliances.
• Its own circuit. A standard NEMA 5-15 plug, but on a dedicated 15 A GFCI circuit.
• A maintenance routine. Rinse the metal screen weekly, swap the paper filter every two weeks to two months (or when flow drops below 17 L/min), change the water every two to three weeks, and let the water circulate for 30 minutes after a plunge before switching off and covering it.

Vertical or Horizontal

The Vertical takes a 35.4-inch square of floor and has you sitting upright with your shoulders under; the Horizontal is 77.2 inches long and lets you recline. The upright format uses less floor for the same depth of immersion, which our upright plunge page goes into. Tall users should measure seated shoulder height against the Vertical's 35.4 inches, and full length against the Horizontal's 69-inch interior. What we could not verify

• Which Horizontal capacity figure is right.
• The Vertical's own noise figure, and its capacity beyond "roughly 80–90 gallons".
• The chiller's power draw in watts.
• A pull-down time from a stated starting temperature — Sun Home describes it only as "hours, not days".

Alternatives you can buy today

Our honest position

For an inflatable system, Sun Home publishes a lot: temperatures, circuit, filter rating, maintenance intervals, clearances and — for the Horizontal — a noise figure. The capacity inconsistency is the one thing to settle before buying. If you want sub-40 °F water in a small footprint, somewhere that stays above 40 °F, it is a well-documented option. Buy it from Sun Home directly; we earn nothing either way.
