The best towel warmers for a sauna or plunge room

The worst thirty seconds of a winter plunge is the walk back to a cold towel. A warmer fixes that for under a hundred dollars, and capacity is the only spec that decides which one.

By Sawyer V.Last updated
Fontaines Luxury Towel Warmer, Bucket Style

The verdict: buy the Fontaines bucket warmer. It takes up to three oversized towels, which is the only capacity here that fits a robe alongside the towels — and the robe is the item you actually want warm after a December plunge. It is also the single listing in this category that names ice baths and cold plunges as an intended use. If a damp towel from yesterday is the real problem, the VIPBATH is the only unit here with a drying mode as well as a warming one, and it folds flat out of season. If you want numbers, the FLYHIT publishes both its wattage and its warm-up time — 450 W, about 25 minutes — which is the pair that tells you when to switch it on. And if you want one button and nothing to think about, the SereneLife is one touch and one hour.

Capacity is the whole decision

Every listing in this category quotes capacity as 'up to two 40 by 70 inch towels', and that phrasing hides the real difference. A 20-liter bucket genuinely takes two bath towels. It does not take two bath towels and a sherpa-lined changing robe, which is what a cold plunge in January actually requires — see the best sauna and cold plunge robes for the robes in question. Only the three-towel and 35-liter units here have the volume for that. Measure the robe before you buy, because a warmer you have to choose between the towel and the robe for is a warmer you will stop using.

Read from each Amazon listing on 2026-10-17. Only two publish a wattage and only one publishes a warm-up time; every unit here states cotton only and none is intended for drying genuinely wet items except the VIPBATH.

Where it goes, and where it does not

  1. 1Not inside the hot room. This is a mains appliance with a plastic or fabric exterior, and a sauna interior runs at 175 to 195 degrees F. It belongs in the changing area, the bathroom or the mudroom between the plunge and the house.
  2. 2Within reach of where you get out. The whole value is a warm towel at the moment you are coldest. Twenty feet away and three doors along is a warm towel you will not bother with.
  3. 3On a surface that tolerates a drip. You will load it with towels that have been near water. A 450 W element and a puddle are not a combination to be casual about.
  4. 4Not as a dryer, unless it says so. Four of these five explicitly say not to put damp items in. Only the VIPBATH publishes a drying mode.

Who each pick is for

  • Fontaines — a robe and towels together. Three oversized towels of capacity, four timer steps, ETL certified, and the only listing naming plunge use. Skip it if the plunge is indoors and the walk back is three steps.
  • VIPBATH 35 L — damp towels and small rooms. Drying mode as well as warming, folds flat, tip-over shut-off. Skip it if you want something that looks like spa equipment; this is a smart appliance in a nice finish.
  • FLYHIT 20 L — the published numbers. 450 W, warm in about 25 minutes, up to a 4-hour hold. Skip it if you want to warm a robe: measure first, because 20 liters is a two-towel bucket.
  • aGratHav — a temperature readout. LCD showing temperature and time, metal heating plate, ETL and FCC. Skip it if you want a long hold; it stops at one hour.
  • SereneLife — one button. Single-touch, 60-minute shut-off, insulated cool-touch lid, from a brand already in this site's chiller coverage. Skip it if you want to choose a hold time; there is no alternative to one hour.

What works

  • Fits a robe alongside towels, which smaller buckets do not
  • Four timer steps rather than one fixed cycle
  • The only listing here that names plunge use explicitly

What doesn't

  • The most expensive warmer on this page
  • Cotton only — the listing rules out synthetics
  • Not for drying damp towels, only warming dry ones

Skip it ifthe sauna is indoors and the walk back is three steps. This solves a cold walk, not a warm one.

#2 · A drying mode, and folding flat out of season

VIPBATH

$69.99 · View on Amazon

#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.

The only unit here with a drying mode as well as a warming one, which is the difference between a nice towel and a towel that is not still damp from yesterday's plunge. It also folds flat, so it is not a permanent fixture in a small bathroom.

Published specifications
Capacity35 L; stated 3 large towels or 2 robes
ModesHeating and drying
DisplayLED with delay start up to 24 hours
FrameOne-piece folding, stores flat
WindowTransparent viewing panel
SafetyETL certified; overheat and tip-over shut-off
Weight7.67 lb
Dimensions16.38 x 11.42 x 22.71 in

What works

  • A real drying mode, not just warming
  • Tip-over shut-off as well as overheat cut-out
  • Folds flat, which no bucket warmer does

What doesn't

  • Fabric-and-frame construction feels less solid than a bucket
  • Stated capacity varies between three towels and two robes depending which line of the listing you read
  • The scented discs it ships with are a gimmick, not a feature

Skip it ifyou want something that looks like a piece of spa equipment. This is a smart laundry appliance in a nice finish.

#3 · A published wattage and a published warm-up time

#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.

The only warmer here that publishes both its wattage and how long it takes to get there — 450 W and about 25 minutes — which is the pair of numbers that tells you whether to switch it on before or after your sauna round.

Published specifications
Capacity20 L; two 40 x 70 in towels, or about five medium towels
Power450 W
Warm-upAbout 25 minutes
Timer1 to 4 hours; defaults to 30 minutes
SafetyETL certified; triple-layer thermal cutoff
LidWooden
Dimensions11.53 x 11.53 x 19 in
WarrantyStated 12 months

What works

  • Publishes wattage and warm-up time, so you can time it against a session
  • Up to a 4-hour hold, the longest here
  • Hot-surface indicator light rather than guesswork

What doesn't

  • 20 L is a two-towel bucket, not a robe bucket
  • Explicitly not for damp items
  • A plastic exterior at a price where one rival is metal-lined

Skip it ifyou want to warm a robe. Measure it first — a 20 L bucket and a sherpa-lined changing robe do not fit together.

#4 · An LCD and a metal heating plate

#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.

The one unit here that shows you a temperature instead of a mode light, and the only one with a metal heating plate rather than a wrapped element — both of which are the sort of specification this category normally hides.

Published specifications
CapacityTwo 40 x 70 in towels; three to four standard towels
Power450 W
HeatingMetal heating plate
DisplaySmart LCD showing temperature and time
LidClamshell
Shut-off1-hour automatic
CertificationETL and FCC
Footprint18.5 x 13 in

What works

  • An LCD readout rather than an indicator light
  • Metal heating plate, which the cheaper buckets do not state
  • Both ETL and FCC listed

What doesn't

  • One fixed 1-hour shut-off, where two rivals offer four timer steps
  • No stated warm-up time
  • Black finish shows water spots

Skip it ifyou want a 4-hour hold for a family running in and out of a plunge all afternoon. This one stops at an hour.

#5 · One-touch operation and an insulated lid

SereneLife Bucket Towel Warmer, 13.25 in

SereneLife

$83.99 · View on Amazon

#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.

The simplest unit here — one button, one hour, done — from the brand whose plunge chillers already appear on this site. The insulated double-walled lid is the detail that keeps the top cool enough to put a hand on.

Published specifications
CapacityTwo full-size towels, plus a throw, robe or pajamas
Dimensions13.25 x 13.25 x 18.5 in
ControlSingle-touch
Shut-offAutomatic after 60 minutes
LidDouble-walled insulated, stated cool to the touch
HeatingStated even end-to-end
Weight10.5 lb
FinishWhite with natural wood

What works

  • One control, which is the right number for something used wet
  • Insulated lid you can actually touch
  • A brand already represented in this site's chiller coverage

What doesn't

  • No timer choices and no display
  • No published wattage or warm-up time
  • Round footprint wastes more counter space than a clamshell

Skip it ifyou want to set a hold time. This is a one-hour appliance with no alternative.

What none of them publishes

  • A temperature the towels reach. Five for five. Everything is described as warm, cozy or spa-like; nothing gives a figure except the one unit with an LCD, and that reports rather than specifies.
  • Wattage, on three of five. Two publish 450 W. The others leave you unable to compare running cost — see sauna running costs for how we treat electricity figures.
  • Warm-up time, on four of five. Only FLYHIT commits to about 25 minutes, which is the number that decides whether you switch it on before your first round.
  • Interior material, on four of five. One names a stainless inner tub. For the rest, the part in contact with your towel is unspecified.

Questions people actually ask

Is a towel warmer worth it for a cold plunge?
It solves one specific problem well: the walk back indoors from an outdoor plunge in winter, when a cold towel is the worst part of the session. One listing on this page names ice baths and cold plunges as an intended use. If your plunge is indoors and the towel is already at room temperature, the case is much weaker.
Can a towel warmer go inside a sauna?
No. It is a mains appliance with a plastic or fabric exterior, and a sauna interior runs at 175 to 195 degrees F. It belongs in the changing area or the room between the plunge and the house.
How big a towel warmer do you need for a robe?
Bigger than the two-towel buckets. A 20-liter bucket takes two bath towels and not much else; a sherpa-lined changing robe needs the three-towel or 35-liter class. Measure the robe before you buy.
Can you dry a wet towel in a towel warmer?
Usually not. Four of the five listings here say explicitly not to put damp items in — they warm dry towels. Only one publishes a dedicated drying mode.
How much power does a towel warmer use?
Only two of these publish a figure, both 450 W, which is roughly a quarter of a hair dryer and far less than a sauna heater. Over a 30-minute cycle that is a fraction of a kilowatt-hour; the units that publish nothing cannot be compared.
