The best sauna towel racks

The cheapest fitting in a sauna, and the one that decides whether towels dry or sit in a damp heap on the bench. The spec that matters is whether the wood is coated.

By Sawyer V.Last updated
Singhoow Cedar Sauna Hanger, 3 Hooks, Coating-Free

The verdict: buy the Singhoow 3-hook cedar hanger. It is the only rack here that publishes its peg length (about 6 cm) and the only one that states a coating-free exterior — which is the spec that actually matters inside a hot room, because a finish that off-gasses at 190 degrees F is a finish you smell every session. Buy the Royal Saunas hemlock 4-hook if a family uses the cabin and you need the hook count. Buy the INFRADELUX 1-hook if it is a one-person cabin or you just want something on the back of the door.

Coated or bare is the real decision

Everything else here is hook count and species. One rack states a coating-free exterior; another states a water-based acrylic resin finish. Both are defensible and they are opposites. Bare wood smells of cedar when it warms and will gray and roughen over years. A coating repels moisture and keeps the look, but it is a film sitting in 190 degrees F air — and the general rule on this site is that anything applied to sauna wood should be chosen deliberately, which is why sauna cleaners and wood oils is its own page. If the rack is going inside the hot room, we would take bare wood. If it is going in the changing area or a bathroom, the coating is the better buy.

Count the hooks against the people

The common mistake is buying a four-hook rack for a one-person cabin, or a single hook for a family. Each bather arrives with a towel and leaves with a robe, so two hooks per person is the realistic figure, not one. A two-person cabin wants the 4-hook or two of the 2-hooks; a one-person cabin genuinely only needs the single. The Novabright is the odd one out and the most flexible: a two-pack of double-arm hooks, so you get four hanging points across two mounting positions and can put wet and dry items apart.

Who each pick is for

  • Singhoow 3-hook cedar — the default. Published peg length, a stated coating-free finish, screws in the box. Skip it if you want a sealed, wipeable surface.
  • Royal Saunas cedar 2-hook — matching a cedar interior. Red cedar from a sauna-accessory brand already on this site. Skip it if more than two people use the cabin.
  • Royal Saunas hemlock 4-hook — a family cabin. The highest hook count here. Skip it if the cabin is red cedar and you want the fit-out to match; hemlock reads differently.
  • Novabright acacia 2-pack — flexibility, cheapest. Four hanging points across two mounts, 8 screws included, and the only listing that publishes its drying process. Skip it if you want bare wood in the hot room.
  • INFRADELUX 1-hook cedar — a single robe. Red cedar at the lowest price per hook. Skip it if a second person ever uses the sauna.

The only listing here that publishes its drying process — seven to fourteen days before finishing — and the only one that gives you two separate mounting points, so wet and dry items hang apart. It is also the cheapest.

Published specifications
WoodSolid acacia
DesignDual-arm, two hanging points per hook

FinishWater-based acrylic resin, moisture-repelling
Fixings8 screws included
EdgesHand-sanded, satin-smooth

  • Publishes its drying process, which nothing else in this category does
  • Two hooks in the pack, so towels and robes hang separately
  • Cheapest on this page, with all fixings included

What doesn't

  • Acacia is not a traditional sauna species and will look different to a cedar interior
  • A water-based acrylic finish is a coating, where one rival is deliberately bare
  • No published load figure or dimensions

Skip it ifyou want bare, uncoated wood in the hot room. The coating is the trade for the moisture resistance.

#5 · A single hook beside the door

INFRADELUX Red Cedar Sauna Hanger, 1 Hook

INFRADELUX

$35.00 · View on Amazon

#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. We earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. How this is funded.

One hook in red cedar, which is exactly what a one-person cabin or the inside of a door needs. Buying a four-hook rack for a single robe is the more common mistake.

Published specifications
WoodRed cedar
Hooks1
MountingWall-mounted
FinishSmooth, stated not to damage towels or robes
MoistureCedar stated to resist humidity and hold its shape
DimensionsNot published
FixingsNot stated as included

What works

  • Red cedar at the lowest price per hook in cedar
  • A single hook suits a one-person cabin or a door back
  • From a brand that also sells cedar barrel saunas

What doesn't

  • One hook, so a second person needs a second rack
  • No published dimensions or fixings
  • Stock on this listing has been thin

Skip it iftwo or more people use the cabin. One hook becomes a daily negotiation.

Where to mount it, and where not to

  1. 1Not above the heater. The air directly above a stove is the hottest in the room and a damp towel there is a fire question, not a drying strategy. Keep well clear of the heater guard zone.
  2. 2Low, not high. A sauna stratifies: the air at ceiling height is far hotter than at bench height. For the wood's sake and the towel's, mount at or below shoulder height when seated.
  3. 3Into a stud or a batten, not just the panelling. Tongue-and-groove cladding is thin. A wet towel and a robe is several pounds in tension, and only one rack here publishes any load figure at all — which is to say none do.
  4. 4Outside the hot room is also fine. Most people want the robe where they change, not where they sweat. A coated rack suits that spot better.

What none of them publishes

  • A load rating. Five for five. Every listing claims it holds heavy wet towels; none gives a figure.
  • Backing-board dimensions, on four of five. You cannot plan the mounting without them.
  • A temperature rating. Unsurprising for solid wood, but the coated pick is the one where it would matter.
  • Peg length, on four of five. It is the figure that decides whether a rolled towel stays on the hook.

Questions people actually ask

How many hooks does a sauna towel rack need?
About two per person. Each bather arrives with a towel and leaves with a robe. A one-person cabin genuinely needs a single hook; a two-person cabin wants four hanging points, from a 4-hook rack or two doubles.
What wood should a sauna towel rack be?
Cedar is the default — low-resin, aromatic and dimensionally stable in heat and humidity. Hemlock is the common cabin species and a reasonable match. Acacia works and will look different to a cedar interior.
Should a sauna towel rack be coated or bare?
Inside the hot room, bare. A finish sitting in 190 degrees F air is something you will smell, and one rack here states a coating-free exterior for exactly that reason. In a changing area or bathroom, a water-based acrylic finish is the better buy.
Where should you mount a sauna towel rack?
Clear of the heater, at or below seated shoulder height where the air is cooler, and fixed into a stud or batten rather than just tongue-and-groove cladding. No rack in this category publishes a load figure, so do not rely on the panelling.
Can you use a bathroom towel rack in a sauna?
A metal rail gets hot enough to burn a hand and a painted one will off-gas. Every rack sold for this purpose is wood for those two reasons.
